Kids & Chiropractic? OF COURSE!
For those of us who have kids (or who have ever been kids), know how many traumas kids have
throughout life. Remarkably, it starts with the birth process. In the picture below, you can see how
much neck twisting there is in a "normal" birth. This is not to mention traumatic births such as
forceps delivery, vacuum extraction or caesarian delivery (which is the most traumatic). As kids
grow, so does their sense of adventure: Learning to walk, riding a bike, climbing trees, ect. All of
these stressors can cause Vertebral Subluxation, leading to interference with normal nerve function.
It is no coincedence that our name is Dolak FAMILY Chiropractic. We specialize in correcting
Subluxation for the entire family.

EAR INFECTION
Ear Infection (Acute otitis media) is the result of fluid buildup in the inner ear
(eustation tube). The fluid buildup can result in a bacterial infection. The key to
understand is the CAUSE of the infection. ALL infection is due to an inability of
the body's immune system to fight off the infection (the body was designed to heal
itself!). A major reason why immune function is lowered is interference with the
nervous system (control mechanism for immune function). Chiropractic adjustments
(to remove nerve system interference) have been shown to increase immune function
and aid in the drainage of fluid in the eustation tube.
"Chiropractic Care of 401 Children with Otitis Media: A Pilot Study"
Found in the March 1998 edition of Alternative Therapies and authored by Fallon and Edelman.
(Conclusion) "There is a strong correlation between chiropractic adjustment and the resolution of
otitis media for the children in this study, which can serve as a starting point from which those in
the chiropractic profession can examine their role."
A recent study published in the March 29, 2004 peer reviewed journal, The Journal of Vertebral
Subluxation Research, (JVSR), showed that chiropractic adjustments had a positive effect on
children with acute ear infections.
A similar story also appeared on the website of the television station, WIS TV news on March
30, 2004. That story featured a four year old girl Taylor, who went to see a chiropractor for ear
infections. According to her mother Taylor had been suffering with about eight ear infections a
year. Her mother noted that after two chiropractic adjustments, she hasn't had one ear infection
in nine months, "This has been a big great help for us."
Antibiotics May Be Scrapped for Most Ear Infections
Use of antibiotic therapy for treatment of otitis media has become quite controversial. Research
shows that antibiotic treatment of otitis media is no more effective than a placebo. It also can
increase the risk of reoccurrence (Cantekin, 1994).
CNN.com released a story on March 3, 2004 reporting that antibiotics may no longer be what
the doctor orders. According to federal health officials, two leading medical groups are expected
to recommend this spring that doctors stop treating most ear infections in children with
antibiotics.

ARE EAR TUBES THE ANSWER?
Research shows that almost all 98% of the children undergoing the procedure have a recurrence
of effusion within two months, and worse yet 25% of children who undergo ear tube insertion,
have total hearing loss in 10 to 15 years! JMPT Vol 19, # 3 Mar/Apr 1996, Ear Infection: A Retrospective
Study Examining Improvement from Chiropractic Care and Analyzing for Influencing Factors, R. Froehle, DC.

ANTIBIOTICS
FACT: 6,500 children died last year from antibiotic use. 60,000 to 90,000 total Americans die
each year due to antibiotic use.
Antibiotics = Childhood Asthma? New Research Shows a Connection
A new study just published in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Allergy has added fuel to
the concern over the indiscriminate use of antibiotics. It has also begun to address the recent
concern of scientists about the increasing occurrence of asthma in the United States. Basically
the study reveled, the earlier a child is given antibiotics, the more likely the child will develop
